Poster presentations by PSU doctoral students in the AAC community reviewed some of their work to date: the significance of play with beginning communicators, a framework for professionals and families, and the scope of literature on research for peer interactions.
The Power of Play for Beginning Communicators — Presentation
A review of stages of play through typical development can be used to discuss challenges for children with CCN and use AAC, and inform interventions to promote more effective communication.
Teaching Active Listening Skills to Pre-Service SLPs — Publication
Both participants and parents of children who use AAC described the post-instruction interactions more positively than the pre-instruction interactions, suggesting that the pre-service SLPs benefited from the instruction.
