Abstract: A descriptive, explorative study was conducted to systematically document interactions among a 28-month-old child with complex communication needs, her parents, and 26 health care providers in an inpatient rehabilitation unit. Descriptive statistics, communication patterns, and video case examples are presented along with future research directions to inform augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) design and practice in inpatient settings.
