Congratulations to Jessica Gormley who successfully passed her comprehensive exams on August 22, 2018!
Jessica has established a highly significant line of research during her doctoral program to improve outcomes for children with complex communication needs within pediatric rehabilitation. Her comprehensive project, titled “Child-Parent-Provider Communication on an Inpatient Unit: A Case Study,” provided a detailed description of the communication patterns among healthcare providers, parents, and a young child with complex medical and communication needs during a 3-month inpatient stay in the rehab setting. Jessica plans to use the results of her project to develop and evaluate specialized trainings to support AAC use in hospitals. She specifically would like to develop a training to educate healthcare providers in strategies to support more effective communication with children with complex communication needs. Her work will definitely have a substantial impact on the field and on improving the lives of individuals with CCN who experience hospitalizations in inpatient hospital and rehab settings.
Congratulations, Jessica!
