Congratulations to Michelle Therrien, who successfully defended her dissertation today! Michelle investigated the combined introduction of both (a) an iPad (with Visual Scene Display software), and (b) partner training, on the communicative turn-taking of young children with characteristics of ASD and their peers. As Michelle reported in her dissertation, “Four of the five participants with CCN met criterion to complete training within 9 training sessions, and increased communicative turn taking with peers in sessions without adult support.” The results of this study provide important information for the development of interventions for children with ASD, including innovative approaches for supporting social interaction, communication, and the development of peer relationships. Michelle has accepted a position in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Florida State University for fall, 2016. Congratulations Michelle!
