As a guest to the graduate seminar, “Working effectively with individuals who require AAC, and their families,” Chris Klein reached, taught, and inspired students on multiple levels.
Master’s student Jamie Ragsdale noted, “The interaction we had with Chris Klein today was incredible. I’ve watched several of his videos before today, but they don’t show how amazingly quick he is with his AAC system, nor how fluid he is within a conversational transaction. I appreciated his reminders that communicating should be fun—and that we should remember that during the course of our practice working with people with complex communication needs.”
Chris is well known as a strong advocate for those that require AAC, and served as Past President of the United States Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (USSAAC). A graduate of Hope College, Chris has studied at Western Theological Seminar, and is an active speaker at churches, conferences, retreats, and schools.
Alyssa Gatto also commented, “It was great to get his perspectives of what we should be doing as future SLPs. He is such a positive, inspiring person,… and that his family has instilled in him to never get less than what you deserve. It shows how important it is for us to advocate for our clients.”
Chris has YouTube presentations available on seeing unique abilities (TEDxMacatawa: March 15, 2012), and Building Relationships through the Tools of Communication (AAC-RERC: November 25, 2010).
