The purpose of this investigation was to understand the parents’ perspectives on their interactions with professions during the diagnostic experience as well as their experiences with professionals who provide post-diagnostic services to their child with ASD and highlight factors that contributed to those positive or negative perceptions.
Abstract:
Parents of children with autism spectrum disorder interact with professionals both prior to and post diagnosis. This study examined parents’ perceptions of their experiences with professionals during and after the diagnostic process and the factors that influenced those experiences. Results, clinical implications, and directions for future research will be discussed.
