Stutzman, A., Wilkinson, K. M., & Seisler, A. (2011, November). Visual Scene Displays evoke N400 brain responses similar to words. Presentation at the Annual Conference of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, San Diego, CA (November). [Poster]
In Visual Scene Displays, language concepts are embedded within photographs of meaningful events. Given their physical resemblance to the “real world,” are VSDs appropriate as supports for symbolic/linguistic functions? Brain imaging demonstrated that responses to VSDs resemble those evoked by “linguistic” stimuli, offering supports for their use as communication aids.
