The Spring 2016 semester is winding down at PSU, and things have been bustling. We’re looking at ASHA’s Communication Takes Care initiative this May as a chance to catch up on some of the things our AAC Community has been doing.
The students in Dr. Jess Caron’s Advanced AAC Seminar closed the Spring 2016 semester by sharing presentations they had prepared as practice for teaching others about multimodal supports ranging from low-tech systems, visual schedulers, educational software, and apps/dedicated devices for comprehensive communication needs. Being able to comprehensively assess and teach the features of an approach to individuals, their families, and related teams (such as educators and paraprofessionals at a school, or job coaches at a work site), is a critical component to effective AAC intervention.
The course is part of the comprehensive research-based curriculum for participants on the Children’s Communicative Competence Grant, and is available as an elective for other students who have an interest in AAC.
This is among numerous educational opportunities which provide students in the PSU AAC Community to critically engage with topics such as:
