Doctoral students at PSU have a variety of opportunities to develop competencies in research methods, personnel preparation, policy and professional issues in SLP, research and evidence-based practices for high need children who require AAC, leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Achievement of the outcomes of the proposed OAR grant-funded study will provide new and needed evidence of intervention programs for teaching language and communication to the most severely affected subset of children with ASD, those who require AAC to meet their daily communication needs.

Poster session reviews the perspectives of parents of children with autism spectrum disorders and how experiences during the diagnostic process impact working with professionals over time.
Parenting a Child With Autism: Parents' Perspectives at Different Stages — Presentation
This poster presents research involving focus groups of parents of children with ASD at different stages, investigating the experience of parenting children with ASD, and the different needs brought about by the multiple transitions that occur throughout the life span of a child.
