This week, in CSD 451: An Introduction to Augmentative and Alternative Communication, the students had a “virtual” visit from Julie Burns, a young adult who uses AAC. During her virtual presentation, Julie was able to share her perspective of learning to use AAC, as well as share some advice to 70 future SLPs!
Julie shared:
“Using AAC in my life is important because I’m a grown woman and my voice has to be heard. I didn’t always use my AAC system because nobody around me used one. But now I think it is very important. I need to show other people that people who can’t talk – CAN talk!”
Thank you for your invaluable insights, Julie! Come visit again!
