Dr. Kathy Drager traveled to the Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (CAAC) at the University of Pretoria in South Africa (June, 2014). Dr. Drager’s visit was to explore potential collaborations, either in research and/or graduate training, about issues related to AAC use and instruction within a cultural context.
While there, Dr. Drager presented on “Visual Scene Displays (VSDs): Applications for Beginning Communicators Across the Lifespan,” which included discussion on current approaches to aided AAC systems, considerations for addressing the appeal of AAC systems through the use of VSDs, and an interactive intervention strategy for beginning communicators to increase social communicative interaction and language development.
