The AAC community at Penn State is excited to announce that we were awarded a new federally funded doctoral level training grant in AAC (U.S. Department of Education grant #H325D110008), in September, 2011. This grant, the Penn State AAC Leadership Project, responds to the nationwide, critical shortage of Ph.D. faculty who are prepared to conduct research and preservice training of speech language pathologists (SLPs) to improve services and results for high need children with complex communication needs. The grant provides generous funding support for highly qualified doctoral students.
The doctoral scholars will complete a comprehensive research-based curriculum to develop competencies in research methods, personnel preparation, policy and professional issues in SLP, research and evidence-based practices for high need children who require AAC, leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
