The PSU AAC community celebrates with Jessica Gosnell Caron, one of the 2014 recipients of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation) New Century Scholars Doctoral Scholarship awards.
The ASHFoundation is able to offer this special competition as a result of its Dreams and Possibilities Campaign initiative. This campaign raised over $2 million to support doctoral education and research in the field of communication sciences and disorders. The intention of this program is to support strong doctoral candidates who will pursue a teacher-investigator career in the academic environment, university/college level.
Jessica’s research interests include maximizing communication competence and enhancing quality of life for individuals who have significant speech and language impairments and require augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) through: (a) improvement of literacy outcomes; (b) enhancement of display design for high tech communication methods; and (c) expansion of social networks and communication modalities (e.g. access to social media).
