Students who major in Special Education at PSU participate in Dr. David McNaughton‘s SPLED 418 course on assistive technology, including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). The class includes videos and interviews with individuals who use a variety of assistive technologies, reviews of evidence-based interventions, and hands-on experiences with technology strategies and supports.
For this class (in the AAC lab, 301 Ford Building), students first viewed videos of AAC systems being used and described by persons with complex communication needs, and then had an opportunity to try a variety of AAC systems themselves, including typing with an eye-gaze control system.
